Diagnostic Reading Assessments
Our Diagnostic Reading Assessments assesses your child's reading patterns and behaviors, as well as, any reading deficits or weaknesses. To gather information we use a Reading Running Record. This type of assessment helps us gather data based on accuracy, fluency, self-correction strategies and comprehension of a text. Our tutors will be able to create a reading plan specific to your child's needs and abilities. We will continually check-in to assess your child's reading level. This will help us identify growth patterns and target areas of struggle.
The Writing Road to Reading
Here at City on a Hill, our teachers are Certified Mulit-Sensory Reading Specialists that teach reading by using a whole-language approach. Explicit reading instruction is delivered using detailed and structured methods that incorporate the four major components of language; reading, writing, speaking and listening. By exposing our learners to a whole-language approach to reading, students build confidence in their reading skills, as well as, their writing skills. Students exposed to a whole-language approach to reading also tend to be much more successful in spelling, grammar, phonics and decoding. The whole- language approach also encourages students with multi-sensory learning styles as the methods of teaching incorporate visual, oral, auditory and kinesthetic practices.
Mathematics
Kindergarten through Grade 7
Lower Grades
Whether your child is just beginning school or well into their academic career, mastering foundational math skills is vital to success later on. We use a variety mathematical strategies to teach math in an applicable and practical way. We incorporate real world problem solving and application in all of our studies. Students will engage in mathematical practices by use hands on of tools to deepen their knowledge and understanding.
Upper Grades
Geared for learners in grades 4 through 7, we offer your child opportunities to practice and master foundational mathematics. Math tutors will help students attend to precision, make sense of problems and build on prior knowledge and understanding. It is vital that students acquire these foundational mathematical practices and procedures early on. These skills will give them deeper conceptual understanding for High School Math later on.

Monitoring Your Child's Progress
What is Progress Monitoring?
Progress monitoring is a way that we continually assess and gather data based on your child's progress. Throughout your child's time with us we will continually check-in to ensure your child is making steady progress. Through progress monitoring our tutors will continually create and modify goals for your child that are appropriate and attainable for your child. We will clearly communicate to you the academic goals we have created for your child, as well as, each time they meet one of their goals.
